Guess what omegascience! Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are the days that South Indians celebrate *Sankranti*. Bhogi is the first day of Sankranti. People of the town gather in the morning and throw and burn away old items. It could be furniture, tree branches, dung from cattle, etc. Girls in the village decorate their houses with *muggulu(which are diagrams that are drawn using flour and covered with flower petals)and marigold flowers. Colors are used in the muggu to make *rangoli(drives away insects from entering the home). People take a head bath in the morning and wear new clothes. That evening, mothers *Bhogipandlu(mixture of coins, soaked chana, cherries to drive away evil effects from the child) for their child if 3-10 years old.

Oops! I forgot to tell you about Sankranti itself. Sankranti is mostly celebrated in villages. A sweet called *Ariselu(sweet variety made from raw rice powder, jaggery and ghee for the festival)which is the mostly prepared savoury. It tastes delicious! You have a lot of fun these three days. North Indians call sankranti "Rangoli"(I am south indian). They throw colors on each other. That day north indians wear white clothes.

Sorry, but I forgot about telling you about the 3rd day.The 3rd is known as Kanuma.Farmers worship their bullocks and decorate them with *kum kum(red powder) and *haldi(yellow powder) to their horns. Then they are taken to bullock races. Its like a sports day for farm animals.
